Lipstick stains can be one of the most stubborn marks to remove from clothes, napkins, or fabric. Whether it’s a fresh smudge or a set-in stain, finding the right method to clean it can save your favorite outfit or linens. In this post, I’ll walk you through 7 different stain-removal methods that I tested for lipstick stains. But, if you want to see which method worked best, you’ll have to check out my video!
1. Rubbing Alcohol Method
Rubbing alcohol is a tried-and-true option for dissolving tough lipstick stains thanks to its ability to break down oils.
Steps:
- Step 1: Apply rubbing alcohol to a cotton ball or clean cloth.
- Step 2: Dab (don’t rub!) the stain to lift it from the fabric.
- Step 3: Once the stain has mostly lifted, rinse with cold water and wash as usual.
2. Hairspray Trick
It might sound strange, but hairspray can break down lipstick pigments and oils, making it easier to remove.
Steps:
- Step 1: Spray the lipstick stain with hairspray and let it sit for 10 minutes.
- Step 2: Blot the stain with a damp cloth, then launder the fabric.
3. OxyClean Stain Remover
OxyClean is known for lifting tough stains, and I wanted to see how well it would perform on lipstick marks.
Steps:
- Apply OxyClean directly to the stain.
- Let it sit for 5-10 minutes before scrubbing and rinsing.
4. Shout Stain Remover
Shout stain remover is another popular option for tackling difficult stains, and I put it to the test with lipstick.
Steps:
- Apply Shout to the stain and let it soak in for a few minutes.
- Blot the stain and launder the fabric as usual.
5. Micellar Water
Micellar water is gentle yet effective on your skin, but can it work on fabric stains? I decided to try it out.
Steps:
- Soak a cotton ball or cloth in micellar water.
- Dab the stain gently and rinse after lifting the pigment.
6. Vinegar and Dish Soap
This DIY method uses common household items—vinegar and dish soap—to tackle the oils in lipstick stains.
Steps:
- Mix 1 part vinegar with 2 parts dish soap.
- Apply to the stain, let it sit for 10 minutes, then rinse with cold water and wash.
7. The Pink Stuff Stain Remover
The Pink Stuff has a cult following for removing tough stains from various surfaces, but can it handle lipstick?
Steps:
- Apply The Pink Stuff to the stain and let it sit for a few minutes.
- Scrub gently with a soft cloth, then rinse and wash.
